Hooray?

The wait is over.
I didn’t get fired.
Honestly, I was a bit shocked. I thought for sure I was a goner. The DM came in just to tell me that I was only there on a technicality, that it wasn’t my job to say how much time was enough time to do a task, and that the only thing he’d better hear about me is what an exceptional worker I am. In other words, if I stick my pinky toe over one of the many lines they have drawn for us peons, I’m out. I did try to apologize, but he didn’t want to hear that. And the technicality? They, whether it was home office or the two who wrote me up, filled out the wrong paperwork.
When Protege called me Friday, I thought long and hard about telling him not to bother. I probably should have. Having that job makes me too comfortable. I started out with a goal and pushed it aside. I needed the work, but I let myself go from working weekends to working whenever they wanted me to and I really shouldn’t have done that. Having the possibility of being unemployed looming over my head has done wonders for my ‘business’ mentality. I’d gotten a good bit of work done over the week I had off.
I should have said no. I don’t think it’ll matter, though. I’ll be under a microscope and they’ll find something to write me up for. Even if I do manage to survive this week, I really don’t think I’ll be around there much past the next two. The place looks better. We even have a full staff (yay for managers!), but I just don’t know. There’s something about that place now…Yeah.
Meanwhile, I think I’ll spend the day reading some long-neglected files and making up my specialty blends of cleaning products.
And I think I’ll be devoting pretty much all my spare time to more of the same.
I know there’s at least one person out there thinking to themselves that it’s about fucking time. *smirks*
